Employers will welcome new guidance from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD - the professional body for HR and people development) and the Equality and Human Rights Commission, which aims to help them deal with employees suffering domestic abuse.

The guidance ‘Managing and supporting employees experiencing domestic abuse: A guide for employers’ provides practical ‘key recommendations’ to help employers manage and actively support such employees, by introducing a clear support policy and measures to help them recognise, respond to and support abused employees and refer them to relevant sources of help and staff training.

It follows a government review, which ended in September, on how to support domestic abuse victims in the workplace. The government says it will respond to the findings at the end of the year.

Employers can download the guidance from the CIPD website.
