Recently revealed statistics have shown that the amount of parents being subjected to domestic abuse by their own children has doubled in the last three years. This is of course just those incidents that are reported. There are many, many incidents of domestic abuse that are not reported to the Police.
Across 19 Police forces incidents have increased from 7,224 in 2015 to 14,133 in 2018.
Domestic abuse comes in many forms and does not just include physical violence. It also occurs irrespective of race, gender, religion or the parties relationship.
Seeking help can be a difficult step to take however, as well as being able to seek help from the Police, protection can also be sought from the Family Courts.
If a parent is being subjected to abuse from their child or children then they may be able to seek a Non-Molestation Order for their protection from the Family Court.
This would prevent threats of violence or physical violence, verbal abuse and communication. It can also prohibit the perpetrator from coming within a certain distance of the property that the parent lives in.
Non-Molestation Orders can be obtained on an emergency basis and we endeavour to see clients as soon as they can attend at the offices due to the urgent nature of the matter. We also offer legal aid and can carry out an eligibility check at the initial appointment.
We offer free 30 minute consultations across all of our 14 offices. Our team specialise in assisting clients that have been subject to domestic abuse in a confidential and professional manner. We also work closely with various domestic abuses services that can provide further help and assistance for matters such as security at home and safety.
