The Law Society, Bar Council and Chartered Institute of Legal Executives have warned Solicitors, Barristers and Legal Executives that they need to play it cool when speaking to Litigants in Person.
A Litigant in Person is someone that represents themselves in proceedings and does not have a lawyer representing them.
Due to the limited availability of Legal Aid more and more people are having to represent themselves in family proceedings.
Representing yourself can be a daunting process which feels even tougher with the emotional involvement that you have to the proceedings. People find it even harder when their opposition has a lawyer representing them.
Professional bodies have warned that lawyers need to take extra care and refrain from using inflammatory words and complex legal terms to make the process easier for litigants in person.
Ramsdens offer a friendly, approachable and professional service to our clients and their opposition in Court proceedings. Our family team understand that it is difficult for all involved in family proceedings and they tailor their approach to each individual client to make the process as easy as possible.
