Figures recently released from the Ministry of Justice have shown an increase in the number of grandparents going to Court in order to have contact with their grandchildren.
Figures from 2016 found over 2000 applications were made by grandparents. This compares with approximately 1600 in the year 2014. Figures from January to June in 2017 found over 1000 applications suggesting that we are likely to see a further significant rise in the number of applications made.
This trend, in part, represents the desire of grandparents excluded from the lives of their grandchildren to seek contact. Grandparents can often be left devastated when they are unable to see their much-loved grandchildren as a result of parental separation.
Grandparents now play more of a key role in the lives of their grandchildren, assisting with childcare due to rising costs.
At Ramsdens, our expert legal team regularly act for grandparents who wish to apply to Court for contact with their grandchildren. We recognise that contact with key family members is so important for children and ultimately, in their best interests. As members of resolution we work in a collaborative, non-confrontational manner to keep costs to a minimum and ultimately, achieve the best outcome for you.
