This week we are supporting Road Safety Week and the focus of the campaign this year is being Bike Smart. Cycling is a popular sport and more and more cyclists are taking to the road. Cyclists and motorcyclists are some of the most vulnerable road users and safety is therefore paramount.

Ramsdens Solicitors are pleased to confirm that they will be supporting Brake Charity throughout their road safety awareness week taking place from the 19th-25th November 2018.

The civil liability bill jumped the last hurdle this week and was passed through the House of Commons. The small claims limit will be raised to £5,000 for Road Traffic Accidents with a fixed tariff being introduced for whiplash claims. It will also consider the discount rate used for lump sum settlements to calculate future losses. Amendments will now be now considered and then will proceed for royal assent. It is thought that the new law will come into play for April 2020.

Ramsdens are proud to have supported National Road Victim Month this August, considering the impact of serious injuries and death on our roads. We support the charity Brake and the work they carry out to help improve roads, driver awareness and our overall attitudes towards road safety.

As Part of National Road Victim Month, Robyn Mayoh, Court of Protection Solicitor at Ramsdens has been looking at the impact of injuries on decision making.

We are fortunate that the UK has one of the best road safety records in the world however this does not mean that we are fortunate enough to avoid death and serious injuries on our roads. Road safety is seen as a matter of national importance and the government and charities such as ..brake are continuously working towards improving roads, driver awareness and our overall attitudes through many campaigns.

This month is National Road Victim Month, a time to remember those killed or seriously injured on our roads. The immediate aftermath of a serious collision is, for all concerned, a time of shock. Others who have been in the vehicle but perhaps sustained lesser injuries and family members are attempting to process the information provided by the authorities that a loved one has passed or sustained life changing injuries. Any individuals who were at the collision scene will also have witnessed traumatic events. The Police have specialist Liaison Officers who will explain what is known regarding the collision at that time and the process of investigation to follow.
