​This week Ramsdens are supporting Headways Action for Brain Injury week 2018. With almost 350,000 admissions to hospitals per year in the U.K. as a result of brain injury, it really could happen to any one of us. Research into brain injury is ever evolving with advanced technology, testing and investigation.

​On 2 May 2018, Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, ordered an independent review into NHS breast cancer screening following a discovery that up to 270 women may have had their lives shortened. It has been discovered that the issue may have effected women who were waiting for their final screening test which they should be invited to between the ages of 68 and 71 and all as a result of an IT issue which happened in 2009 but was only discovered in January of this year when it was highlighted to the Department for Health and Social Care by Public Health England. All women between the ages of 50 and 70 should be invited automatically for screening every 3 years.

​The BBC have recently published an article - http://www.bbc.com/news/health-42913396.This confirms that the cost of negligence claims against the NHS has almost doubled since 2010 to date.The article states that in 2016-2017 the NHS spent 1.7 billion on clinical negligence claims and that although the NHS appreciate that victims are entitled to be compensated the costs involved should be proportionate.

The press have recently reported the tragic case of Ellie-May who, at the age of 5, passed away following the refusal of her GP to see her and her mother. Heavy breathing during the night and a severe asthma attack led to her unfortunate passing.

There are multiple guidelines which are to be adhered to in relation to nursing care.
