Following on from the Queen's Speech, Nick Armitage, Head of Litigation has given his take on the Governments housing plans and comments: "Well the new Conservative Government have set out its
priorities for the new parliament. One noticeable inclusion in briefing notes
for the Queen’s Speech is that Landlords are going to get more rights to gain
possession of their property let on assured shorthold tenancies. However,
the Government will also press ahead with abolishing section 21 Notices, which
are notices to terminate assured shorthold tenancy on a no-fault basis.
"There will also be the introduction of a lifetime deposit, so it can be
transferred and so tenants do not need to find a new deposit each time they
rent a new home. However, as always the devil will be in the details."
