The Ramsdens Trainees attended the Yorkshire Children’s Centre Befriender’s Christmas Lunch this December. The event was funded and held because of the generosity received in supporting the Trainee’s “How well do you know the Ramsdens’ Partners” quiz and raffle and Just Giving donations.
It was evident that new friends were being made throughout the day and the Ramsdens Trainees spoke to some amazing and lovely people- they were in special awe of Winifred, a 103 year old lady, who was singing along to all the songs and chatting away to the rest of her table.
Every year it is mentioned in the media about people feeling lonely, especially at Christmas, due to a number of reasons, including lack of family. The Befriending scheme aims to try and reduce the number of elderly people feeling lonely or isolated throughout the year and not just at Christmas.
Many of the guests in attendance at the event thanked the Trainees for supporting the scheme and for hosting the event. For some of these people, this lunch was the only Christmas that they would probably experience. They were so happy to be able to join other people who understood the way they felt and to have some yummy food and good company.
Our Trainees would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that has supported this brilliant cause. You have helped make someone’s Christmas special and shown them that someone cares.
Plans are now underway to host an Easter event next year due to the success of the Christmas Lunch so watch this space for our next fundraising event next year!
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
