The UK government has updated its guidance for UK organisations that receive and send personal data from and to the European Economic Area (the EU member states, plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) or which operate there, following the recent data protection adequacy decision by the EU.

The House of Commons Health and Social Care Select Committee has launched a new inquiry on NHS litigation reform. The Committee has invited written submissions addressing the following points.

World Alzheimer’s Month is an international campaign from Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) that takes place every September.

After 4 years of speculation, the government have now confirmed that fixed recoverable costs will be introduced for most civil cases worth up to £25,000 in the fast track. The fast track will be expanded to include ‘intermediate’ cases valued between £25,000 and £100,000 in damages, therefore extending fixed costs to ‘simpler’ valued up to £100,000.

The winning party in civil cases is generally entitled to an order for payment of his legal costs from the loser. In certain cases the amount of legal costs that can be recovered for various stages of the litigation, from pre-issue to the final hearing, is fixed.
