World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) takes place each year on 15th June. It was officially recognised by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011 following a request by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse. The purpose of WEAAD is to raise awareness of the abuse and suffering inflicted on some of our older generations.

Loneliness Awareness Week will take place from 14th to 18th June. The awareness week is hosted by Marmalade Trust who are a loneliness charity whose goal is to build greater awareness and acceptance of loneliness. The purpose of the awareness week is to get people talking to help ourselves and others manage the feeling of loneliness.

Developers, property owners and funders will welcome changes to planning laws that permit developments in England altering use of property from commercial business and service (Class E) to residential (Class C3), under a new Class MA (Mercantile to Abode), provided certain conditions are met.

Urgent action is being taken after maternity services in Sheffield were downgraded from ‘outstanding’ to ‘inadequate’ following inspection in March. The inspection was prompted following concerns about the safety and quality of services provided to women and babies.

7,710 children are looked after away from home in Wales, which is the highest proportion of children in the UK. In July 2020, 0.67% of children in England were looked after away from home, which is the lowest in comparison to Northern Ireland (0.77%), Scotland (1.06%) and Wales (1.14%).

Child Safety Week is organised by the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) to raise awareness of the risks of child accidents and how they can be prevented. This year, the theme is ‘share because you care’, focusing on how sharing safety knowledge saves lives.

This year, we will be supporting Carers Week 2021 which runs from Monday 7th June until Sunday 13th June. Carers Week is an annual campaign designed to raise awareness and recognition of the hard work that carers, both paid and non-paid do all year round.
