David is our Non Executive Chairman and a Consultant to the firm and clients.

He is a Senior experienced Solicitor advising businesses and Senior Executives and has specialised in Employment Law for 30 years

David has previously held senior positions within DLA Piper including as a member of the Global Executive, Managing Director (Europe), UK Managing Partner and Global Head of the Employment, Pensions and Benefits practice.

David is an expert and leader in the field of Employment Law and has contributed to journals and the media on Employment Law issues. He lectures to businesses and has assisted local and national charities in their own awareness-raising seminar programmes and is also a CEDR accredited mediator.

He is also recommended in The Legal 500, 2023 and served as a member of the Board of Governors at Sheffield Hallam University for the maximum term of 8 years.

 

David specialises in:

  • Senior Executive appointments, severance, competition and corporate governance issues;
  • Industrial relations issues and disputes (including recognition and derecognition) and collective employee strategies;
  • Domestic and multijurisdictional change management and restructuring;
  • Investigations involving complex work relationship issues including whistleblowing and allegations of discrimination and/or harassment;
  • Partnership and LLP related disputes and issues

 

What are your career highlights so far?

  • Advising on significant change projects in the brewing and manufacturing industries, involving changes to shift and pay arrangements to ensure the businesses remained competitive in a global sector;
  • Representing several leading sports clubs on the exit and recruitment of senior personnel;
  • Acting for numerous organisations, including publicly listed companies on the reorganisation of boards and senior personnel;
  • Acting for senior executives in claims for constructive dismissal;
  • Acting as mediator to resolve disputes involving Works Councils raised as part of complaints to the Central Arbitration Committee;
  • Acting as the final appellate adjudicator, instructed by two police forces to resolve issues arising from the creation of a shared service centre;
  • Advising leading professional services firms on discrimination and harassment claims arising within their own organisations.
